But that doesn’t mean all the fresh faces of the “new” PGA Tour reside across the pond or throughout the rest of the world.

New England has one of its own making waves in his first season on tour.

Keegan Bradley, a Woodstock, Vt., native and Hopkinton High grad, is doing his best to make his name well known in his first go-round on the big stage. The 25-year-old has competed on the PGA Tour week in and week out, making 11 cuts in 18 events in 2011. He’s currently playing in the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, where he was tied for 52nd place with a 4-under 136 through two rounds.

He has thus far posted three top-10 finishes, seven top-25s as a rookie, while making more than $1.8 million in the process. The highlight of his young career came when he out-dueled Ryan Palmer in a playoff to claim the Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas, in May.

Not bad for a kid from the cold-weather climes of the Northeast who shelved his golf clubs for a pair of skis once winter made its annual arrival in New England.

“It’s surreal at times, for sure,” Bradley said last week from the offices of his newest sponsor, Putnam Investments. “It’s cool for me, especially coming from New England.”

With the Byron Nelson victory, Bradley became the first New Englander to win a PGA Tour event since J.J. Henry won in 2006 at the Buick Championship. He fits the mold of many of the tour’s young guns as a long hitter — Bradley averages 299.8 yards off the tee — who is ready to compete out of the gate.

But the St. John’s University graduate had kind of a jump-start. Golf, after all, is in his bloodlines. Bradley’s father has worked as a club pro at a number of courses across the country. Plus, it never hurts to have a Hall of Famer in the family, namely his aunt, Westford native Pat Bradley, who won six LPGA major championships.

“They seem to be more into it than I am sometimes,” Keegan Bradley jokingly said of his family support. “It’s pretty remarkable stuff.”

The winning came early for Bradley as he consistently competed on the junior circuit in Vermont. When he moved to Hopkinton before his senior year of high school, he easily picked up in the Hillers’ program.
