AMIkids welcomes new director and board chairperson in Juno Beach

AMIkids Palm Beach is a not-for-profit that offers a promising future to more than 100 troubled youth each year through positive and motivating programs that inspire learning, leadership and personal growth. Through education, counseling and behavior modification students are empowered to make positive decisions that will ultimately shape their future. The program is one of more than 50 across the country affiliate with nationally-recognized AMIkids, Inc., headquartered in Tampa, Florida.

Miller has been with AMIkids since 2006. She brings more than five years of extensive experience in the field of juvenile justice and leadership experience to the Palm Beach county program located in Bert Winters Park in Juno Beach. She began her career working with AMIkids Palm Beach as a contracted employee, providing substance abuse and mental health services to the program. She soon joined the AMIkids family as a permanent employee in the position of director of operations. Since that time, Miller also served as director of education and director of treatment. Miller has her master’s degree in community counseling.

Another new addition to AMIkids’ leadership is Rick Sartory as new chairperson of the volunteer board of trustees serving the non-profit. Sartory is the vice president of commercial lending at Flagler Bank, a $130,000,000 independent community bank based in West Palm Beach, Florida. Flagler Bank serves all of Palm Beach, Broward, and Martin Counties. Sartory previously served as chair on the AMIkids Palm Beach Board of Trustees from 1996 to 2005.

"Rick brings more than 20 years of strong leadership experience to his position," said Miller. “We couldn’t be more grateful to have him active in the AMIkids family once again.”

Sartory’s previous knowledge and passion for the organization’s mission will be critical for the program during the leadership changes. A lifelong resident of Palm Beach county, Sartory brings a variety of non-profit experience and his reputation as a dedicated philanthropist in the Palm Beach Gardens community.

Snorkeling in Juno Beach Florida

My family always takes an annual trip to Juno Beach in Florida. A few years ago, my mother decided that we needed to broaden our horizons, so she bought snorkel gear. I, along with my four younger siblings, suited up in fins, wetsuits, and snorkel masks.

We all looked incredibly goofy. Then, we all took the plunge into the ocean. Within moments, my youngest brother was stung by a man-of-war jellyfish all up and down his legs. It really was not that funny, but you had to laugh because he was running all over the beach screaming his head off and rolling in the sand.

Soon, the local lifeguard came down and gave my brother some spray for the sting. He ended up getting my number, and we went out on a date soon afterwards. I still thank my brother to this day for setting me up without even knowing!
