Newport Man Charged with Selling Cocaine

Nelson A. Morales, 28, of 12 Champlin St., Newport, was arrested around 5:55 p.m. on Friday, June 3, on charges of controlled substance conspiracy involving cocaine.

Officers assigned to the Vice/Narcotics Unit conducted in investigation of Morales using an informant. They were able to make two controlled transactions with Morales in front of 224 Park Holm in April. The informant identified Morales as the man who made the transactions.

Police saw Morales while traveling through Park Holm on Saturday. He was handcuffed, transported and booked.

Smashed Glass Table, Chairs Leads to Arrest

Christopher Robinson, 25, of 195 Admiral Kalbfus Road, Newport, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, for domestic vandalism.

On May 24, officers were dispatched to 11 Rolling Green apartments for a report of a domestic vandalism. The victim said Robinson had taken the victim's car after an argument about bringing their son to New York for a visit.

After the victim told Robinson he could not take their son, he reportedly because upset and smashed a glass coffee table and destroyed two chairs.

On Saturday, police saw Robinson leaving from work. He was stopped, handcuffed and transported to the station for booking.

15-Year-Old Arrested for Jumping Newport Girl 

A 15-year-old Newport girl was arrested around 10:05 p.m. on Friday, June 3, on a simple assault/battery charge.

On May 27, police were dispatched to the Newport Hospital emergency room for a juvenile assault victim. According to reports, Middletown police found her near the town line crying and injured. She told police she had been jumped in Park Holm.

The victim had injuries on her face, back and stomach, and said she was visiting a friend. She told police once they left, she and a friend were approach by a large group, pushed from behind and assaulted.

Police obtained a warrant for the suspect's arrest. She was found, handcuffed, and transported to the station for booking. She was later transported to the Rhode Island Training School.

Man Arrested for Pulling Fire Alarm

Jason T. Gregory, 29, of 233 Pine Bluff Drive, Kingsland, GA, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, for allegedly falsely pulling a fire alarm.

Newport City Limits announces a Special Edition taping of four new episodes that will be taped at the Newport Blues Cafe. The taping will be a bigger event with more lights, cameras and action. Newport City Limits just off finishing the first season taping at Jimmy’s Saloon that will produce 22 episodes that showcase Newport and Rhode Island music and musicians.

Newport City Limits is a homegrown, grass roots production with one mission. “Showcase the independent music of Newport, Rhode Island and Southern New England”. NCL has no budget and merely survives on the patrons that attend the tapings to support their local and now national and international acts. Please come out to support this event on May 11th so that we can continue to showcase the local original music and secure this and other venues who would host a Newport City Limits taping.

James Montgomery Bio:

When blues legend James Montgomery plays the harmonica, he “brings it on home”. Whether it’s recording with Kid Rock, sitting in with Gregg Allman, or fronting his hot band of thirty years, Montgomery plays with authority. While growing up in Detroit he learned first-hand from the masters – James Cotton, John Lee Hooker, and Jr. Wells – at the legendary “Chessmate.” Over the years, he’s carried on in the tradition and continues to be a vital presence in Blues as one of the most dynamic performers on the scene.

In 1970, while attending Boston University, Montgomery formed the James Montgomery Band. His inimitable (oh yeah, he majored in English) harmonica playing combined with his incredibly energetic live shows led to the band’s quick ascension on the New England music scene. Within two years, the James Montgomery band was among the hottest acts in Boston along with J. Geils and Aerosmith, and they were quickly signed to a multi-album deal with Capricorn Records.

Since that time, James has recorded six albums. His first, “First Time Out” has been remastered and re-released by MRG/Capricorn. Other include “James Montgomery Band” on Island Records which was number nine on Billboard’s national playlist, “Duck Fever” with members of the David Letterman Band, “Live Trax,” with the Uptown Horns (the Rolling Stones’ horn section), and his release on Tone-Cool, “The Oven Is On.
