GREENVILLE > 2 killed in car crash • Two people died after a cross-over accident Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 70 near Greenville. Police have not identified anyone involved in the accident, and few details have been released. According to the Illinois State Police, a red car traveling eastbound crossed the center median into the path of a westbound tractor-trailer. The truck driver suffered minor injuries. Police say the car's driver and a passenger were killed. Police closed westbound lanes to investigate.

CAHOKIA > Man pleads guilty in shooting • Craig Nichols Jr., 20, pleaded guilty Wednesday on one count of aggravated battery with a firearm for his role in the killing of Blake Munie, 19, in Cahokia. Munie was shot last year while driving in the 1200 block of St. Stephen Drive. His car crashed into a utility pole after the shooting. St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly said Nichols is required to cooperate with a police investigation as part of his plea agreement. He is scheduled for sentencing this month.

MOUNT VERNON, ILL. > Four charged in killing of taxi driver • A man from Swansea was among four suspects charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of American Cab driver Charles Ellis, 75, who was found dead in his vehicle here after an attempted robbery Tuesday morning. Those charged were Demandre D. Black, 18, of the first block of Catherine Court in Swansea, and three people from Mount Vernon: Damandros Q. James and Mark Anthony Taylor Jr., both 18, and Christopher A. Wells, 15.

ST. LOUIS > Crash victim identified • Police said Wednesday that Todd A. Baker, 46, was the man killed in a traffic crash about 12:39 p.m. Tuesday at South Vandeventer Avenue and Shaw Boulevard. Baker lived on Lansing Avenue in Maryland Heights. Police said Baker was traveling east on Shaw when his 2010 Pontiac Vibe drifted into the turn lane from westbound Shaw and collided head-on with a 1986 Ford Crown Victoria. Baker's vehicle then hit a street sweeper and a 1997 Mustang. He died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY > Body still unidentified • Authorities were working Wednesday to identify a man found dead Tuesday night in a vacant lot near Concord Village Avenue and Baptist Church Road. Investigators were looking at whether he might be a homeless man known to some people in the area but not seen recently. Police were waiting for autopsy results to determine how he died. Teens cutting through a wooded area near a Goodwill store made the discovery about 7 p.m.
